February 2nd-6th Parent Newsletter

It’s February! Hope you had a great weekend! Here is the news for this week.

Last Week: We are finishing up with Book D this week. We are also continuing with marking vowels and circling special sounds. For their class work they will be asked to circle special sounds and mark vowels. They will also be graded on it so practice, practice, practice!

Phonics:  We have begun our special sounds this past week and have continued marking vowels. They are catching on fast! Just keep practicing! Here are the rules again… If there is one vowel in a word, it makes the short vowel sound, and we put a smiley face on top. Long vowels: If there are two vowels in a word, the first vowel makes the long vowel sound, it says its name, and the second vowel is silent. You put a stick on top the first vowel and you cross out the second. We will be saying these every day in class and I encourage you to practice saying them at home.

Numbers: Review number families, practicing one or two families a day. Practice counting nickels and adding them, counting by 5’s. Also practice adding, recognizing numbers, and doing what comes before, what comes after.

Memory Verse of the Week: “V” “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you.” John 16:23

Events: February 5th– Marble Jar Party

February 6th– Free Dress Down Day

February 16-18- Winter Break

Don’t Forget: Make sure to check snack schedule as well as Show and Tell schedule every day. Please sign chart in folder every day. The kids have earned their Marble Jar Party! We will have it this Thursday because I will not be here Friday. Our theme will be children around the world. We just finished our Children Around the World Social Studies lessons and for our Marble Jar party they can dress up like a child from their favorite country. We have gone over the United States, Mexico, Peru, England, France, Israel, the Netherlands, Italy, Kenya, China, Japan, and Australia.
