Happy Valentine’s Week!

 

Phonics: We have started learning long vowel sounds and our special sound charts. The kids must learn their vowel rules and know how to do them.   They are written below here. Make sure they memorize them and know how to mark their vowels.

Short vowel rule: When there is one vowel in a word, it makes the short vowel sound and I put a smiley face on top.

 

Long vowel rule: When there are two vowels in a word, the first vowel says its name and the second vowel is silent. I put a stick on top the first and cross out the second.

 

Numbers: We are now writing our different number families. We are reviewing all our families. They should know and recognize numbers 1-100. The first digit is the father of the family which gives the family its name. We have started to learn how to count by 10s and 5s and we introduced the nickel this week. We are also adding 0, 1, 2, and 3 to numbers 1-10.

 

Memory Verse: U- “Unto Thee, O God do we give thanks.” Psalm 75:1

Don’t Forget: I sent home our class snack schedule. Please do not forget to check the schedule every day. I will start sending home a big pink bag in your child’s school bag when it is their snack day. You can send the snack back in the big pink bag. It will also work as a reminder. I also ask you to check your child’s folder every day. This is how we communicate. I ask that you sign the boxes where it says parent’s signature, so I know you are checking their folders. Also sign the boxes next to the homework assignments on the behavior charts when the homework is completed. Make sure to subscribe to receive our class email on our school website. That way you are receiving the email and you will get a hard copy in your child’s folder. Please don’t forget to leave their readers in their school bags so they have them for reading groups during the week. Thursday we will have a Valentine exchange and the kids can dress down in Valentine colors. The exchange is not a big party for parents to come to, it’s just for the kids. If they send valentines, make sure there are enough for every student in the class. We have 25 students.

Monday: Review “U” memory verse. Do homework packet. Read “I Learn to Read” Book 4 pages 7-8.

 

Tuesday: Review “U” memory verse. Do homework packet. Read “I Learn to Read” Book 4 pages 9-10.

 

Thursday: Review “U” memory verse. Do homework packet. Read “I Learn to Read” Book 4 pages 11-13.

February 4th-8th Class News

Last Week: We reached our 100th day of school! The kids had fun celebrating and were very cute little 100-year olds. =)
