March 25th-29th Class News

Last Week: We had parent teacher conferences! Thank you all for coming! It was great to meet with all of you and now we are counting down until graduation!

Phonics: We have started learning long vowel sounds and our special sound charts. The kids must learn their vowel rules and know how to do them.   They are written below here. Make sure they memorize them and know how to mark their vowels. We are also circling special sounds.

Short vowel rule: When there is one vowel in a word, it makes the short vowel sound and I put a smiley face on top.

Long vowel rule: When there are two vowels in a word, the first vowel says its name and the second vowel is silent. I put a stick on top the first and cross out the second.

Numbers: They should know and recognize numbers 1-100. We have started to learn how to count by 10s and 5s and we introduced the nickel. We are also adding 0, 1, 2, and 3 to numbers 1-10. We are telling time by the hour and half hours now. (1:00, 2:00, 1:30, 2:30, etc.)

Memory Verse: Z- “Zion heard, and was glad.” Psalm 97:8

Events:

March 28th– Longue Vue Gardens and House Field Trip

March 30th– The Auction

April 12th– Cap and Gown retakes

Don’t Forget: I sent home our class snack schedule. Please do not forget to check the schedule every day. I will start sending home a big pink bag in your child’s school bag when it is their snack day. You can send the snack back in the big pink bag. It will also work as a reminder. I also ask you to check your child’s folder every day. This is how we communicate. I ask that you sign the boxes where it says parent’s signature, so I know you are checking their folders. Also sign the boxes next to the homework assignments on the behavior charts when the homework is completed. Make sure to subscribe to receive our class email on our school website. That way you are receiving the email and you will get a hard copy in your child’s folder. Please don’t forget to leave their readers in their school bags so they have them for reading groups during the week. Remember auction shirts are for sale for $12 and they can wear them every Monday and Friday up until the auction. Thank you everyone who sent in donations for the auction! You are amazing! Our basket for the auction is so cute! If you come, you can have a chance to win our basket. We have a plant pot with the kid’s thumbprints on it as bumblebees. You don’t want to miss it! Tickets for the auction are $25. Don’t forget to buy yours soon.
